SHUNGITE FAQ

Shungite is a black, lustrous, non-crystalline mineraloid consisting of more than 98 weight percent of carbon (Elite Shungite). It was first described from a deposit near Shunga village, in Karelia, Russia, from where it gets its name. Shungite has been reported to contain trace amounts of fullerenes (0.0001 < 0.001%).

Shungite Crystal – As described above it is not a crystal and is best described as Shungite Rock or Shungite Stone.

There are a few sellers out there, selling Shungite-like products.  Be careful!

So….to test your Shungite Stone and Elite Shungite is real, you can do a very basic test.

The molecular structure of Shungite is such that it conducts electricity. So if a current runs through it, you can tell that it is true Shungite, and not a piece of coal.  You can read more here.

Additionally, Shungite being a natural product will have quartz and pyrite inclusions within it. This is normal and is also a great way to tell if the Shungite you have is genuine.  You can look at our blog here.

Lastly, as it is Shungite Stone, and is fairly soft, there will be some transference of the material to your hands or body when you touch or wear Shungite pedants and especially Shungite bracelets.

You will notice some black material on your skin. This is normal and not harmful and depending on your use of the product the transference will normally cease in a few days to a week. Simply wash off your skin with warm soapy water.

EMF stands for Electro Magnetic Field – all electrical equipment and electrical wires that carry electricity have an electrical field.

EMF is a form of radiation, so IT IS damaging the structure of cells when you come into contact with any EMF.

We sell Shungite Pyramids, Shungite Spheres and Shungite Cubes in polished as well as unpolished finishes.

There is no difference in the product other that the look.

Unpolished allows you to see in detail the finer parts of the Shungite Crystal, including the quartz and pyrites.  It also will transfer dust as it is a relatively soft rock and will leave a residue on your hands when you touch it. 

The unpolished appearance tends to be a very dark grey to black colour.  The polished finish tends to be a very dark black colour and the veins of quartz and pyrite are harder to see.

Shungite Stone is a relatively soft mineral.

Shungite ranks around the 3.5 to 4.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness (10 being a diamond).

When you buy a Shungite bracelet or a Shungite pendant (a wearable), you will find there is some black transference from the wearable.

This is normal and over the course of a week or so it will diminish. I personally wear 3 bracelets and there was some “Shungite Wrist” (I think I just invented a term 😊) each time I added to my collection, but now I get none. You will also see as your pieces get more use, the shine wear off and the items will turn a lovely matt black.

If you are lucky you will be able to see some small amounts of golden pyrite and/or quartz in the Shungite. This is how you can be sure you have authentic Shungite.

It is best to avoid wearing white with a new piece of Shungite. Give it a few days to settle in and most of the black transference will reduce significantly. The black stains can be easily removed with soap and warm water.

Raw Shungite or Elite Shungite or Noble Shungite

To keep your Elite Shungite clean simply wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use any chemicals or harsh abrasives.

Shungite Stone or Shungite Crystals

To keep your Regular Shungite clean simply wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use any chemicals or harsh abrasives.

Elite Shungite or Noble Shungite or Type 1 Shungite or Raw Shungite

I refer to Elite Shungite as Elite.  But as you can see from above, it is also known by other names.

It is the highest grate of Shungite. It is brittle and therefore cannot be made into shapes or carved.

If you are offered a shaped piece of Elite Shungite, it is probably not Elite Shungite.

There are a lot of fake Elite look alights or simply regular Shungite being passed off as Elite.  Be wary. 

Elite is very delicate and can be easily broken so please take care of your piece.

Shungite is an inert mineral (Shungite Stone or Shungite Crystal as it is sometimes referred to)  that is perfectly safe to touch and to wear on your body.

You may find it leaves a black residue on your skin, but this is normal and can be easily removed.

Shungite is primarily made of carbon but also includes other minerals like pyrite and other inert harmless minerals.

There are various ways to harness the benefits of Shungite. Wearing a pendant is a great way for both direct or indirect contact with the skin. This is a highly recommended way to wear Shungite, and is also 100% safe. You can also wearing Shungite as a bracelet or simply keep a piece in your pocket or purse.

For fighting EMF it is a good idea to keep Shungite close to electrical devices, especially microwaves, DECT phones, laptops and wi-fi routers.

Smart meters are being installed at a rapid rate. They are being rolled out worldwide and we have no say in it. Large multinational companies are making these and selling them to utility companies to save them money from sending people out to take readings.

They are saving money, but not passing it on to consumers and we are the ones that are being enveloped in the EMF they produce.

To help protect yourself, place large Shungite objects like cubes near the meter box.  Please be careful where you place them as Shungite is conductive.

Shungite Stone is a natural product and as such contains variations in colour, veining and shading. Some stone will contain inclusions, pits or fissures as a result of its geological formation. These are not flaws and material containing them will be fabricated as a quality product which signifies the authenticity of the product.

The actual stone delivered may differ from the sample shown on our website.

Shungite Masters do not consider these to be flaws or faults in the product as they are naturally occurring.

To make a peaceful and relaxing bedroom place a Shungite sphere next to or under your bed. Similarly, you may put a pyramid next to your computer monitor or the microwave in the kitchen. Attach a mobile phone plate to the back of your mobile phone (it won’t hurt the phone). You can also wear Shungite in the form of pendants. There are a great variety of pedants here. Choose the shape and type of pendant you like best. In addition, Shungite bracelets can help overcome the pain in the wrist and ankles.
