History of the Pyramid

Pyramids have a fascinating history that spans several civilizations and centuries. The following are some key points:

The mud-brick structures known as ziggurats were the first structures to use the pyramid shape.

There is an ancient pyramid in Egypt that was built around 2630 B.C. at Saqqara, for the third dynasty’s King Djoser. It began as a mastaba but evolved into something much more ambitious, known as the Step Pyramid.

During the late third dynasty (c. 2325 B.C.) and into the sixth (c. 2350 B.C. ), Egypt reached its peak of pyramid building.

A magnificent human-made structure, the Great Pyramid of Giza was built during the 4th dynasty (c. 2575-2465 BCE). A number of them were erected along the west bank of the Nile River near Al-Jizah (Giza), in northern Egypt.

A frenetic period of construction, roughly 2550 to 2490 BC, saw the construction of Giza’s three famous pyramids and their elaborate burial complexes. Among the three pyramids, Khufu (the tallest), Khafre, and Menkaure were built by the pharaohs.

The pyramid’s smooth, angled sides were intended to facilitate the king’s soul’s ascent to heaven, where he would join the gods, particularly Ra, the sun god.

Different Types Of Pyramids

Step Pyramid (or Saqqara)

The step pyramids were the earliest pyramid forms and were a design evolution from earlier, flat-roofed tombs called mastabas. One of the most famous step pyramids is the Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, Egypt, built around 2700 BC for King Zoser.

 The Giza (or True) Pyramids

Are pyramids with straight sides. They were built from the fourth dynasty onwards. They represent sunbeams that led the pharaoh to Ra through the sun god’s rays. One of the best known examples are the Pyramids of Giza, built during the 4th dynasty.

 Nubian pyramid

Is a pyramid found in modern-day Sudan that is smaller in size than an Egyptian pyramid, ranging in height from 20 to 100 feet. Nubian pyramids generally had burial chambers beneath them rather than inside them, in contrast to Egyptian pyramids.

How to Orientate Your Large Shungite Pyramid

When you read about the Giza pyramids, they seem amazing. Orientations were almost perfect, with only 0.067 degrees deviation from the four cardinal directions. It’s amazing to think that they didn’t have modern technology and gadgets back then! Pyramids should be placed according to this North, East, South, West orientation.
